Rehearsal January 6 & Thoughts

When you respond, look back through the entries (historical posts) - especially those by Mr. Freeman to comment on, OR COMMENT ON THEATRICAL REALISM - which is the method we are using in Glory Days.
Mr. Charles Cozens, the composer, has generously allowed us to use his music and sounds for our show.
Things to do for tomorrow:
1. Memorize lines.
2. Use the accents. (Nate and Alice are excused until their CD's are in).
3.  Think about your characters.
4. Look at the calendars.  The clinics on March 8 & 9 are important, but if everyone cannot be here then I need to know so that I can change the dates.

THOUGHTS FROM OTHER DIRECTORS AND JUDGES

  • ACTING IS THINKING. IF YOU ARE NOT THINKING, YOU ARE NOT ACTING.
  • GOTE (goat) G - GOAL; O - OBSTACLE; T- TACTICS; E- EXPECTATIONS (In each scene, each character must know those four acting elements as it relates to your character).
  • NEVER BE SATISFIED
  • ANTHONY HOPKINS READS HIS LINES AT LEAST 150 TIMES EACH BEFORE THE FIRST REHEARSAL.
  • THEATRICAL REALISM - A play that is not told chronologically and realistically from beginning to end. We begin with a tableau at the beginning and end with a tableau at the end. Freezing and slow motion is included as tactics in the play to show a memory, a dream, etc.

  1. I thought it was Rose and Nate whose accent CD's had not come in. Its the polish accent correct? Anyways, if you didn't know Canada's birthday is on the 1st of July, and more than nine million Canadians speak french. I like what we did with taking away the gray stuff. I think it added more depth, we had a decent first practice lets keep working hard tonight.

  2. Fun Fact about Canada: in 1932 the Canadian Radio Broadcast Corporation was created! Yeah radio, eh!
Another Fact: Canada's two official languages are English and French!

The welfare scene needs to be a little more smoothly with the "Next!" and moving from chair to chair. We need to create a system to where we know where the beginning of the line is at and where it ends.

And is this the first time all the couples are seeing each other? There needs to be a connection between them, like the first time their eyes met they fell head over heels or they were irritated with each other but secretly loved one another. Something to where we can see the relationship.

  3. I think that the scene where Frank and Reg are younger is very important it shows just how much time and hardwork changed them. that is why i believe that we should try to make that scene as good as we possibly can.

  4. I liked it when we took all the grey away. It looked like everyone could move easier. Are Frank and Reg really close in the beginning, and they move a little apart from each other as the strike goes on? Or do they distant themselves from each other a little, and grow closer together as the strike comes to an end?

  5. I think the most beneficial thing than you can do when learning your character is to be open for change; even we as humans are constantly changing and adapting. So it makes sense that our characters are as well. We grow into our characters mind set, actions and beliefs. It's magic.

  6. I feel that Nate likes to party not to have fun, but to try and escape reality. He works day and some times night, has several children, and when he goes on strike his life get more stressful. So it makes sense that he would try and escape to a carefree would of drunkenness.

  7. So we are trying to achieve the sound of a steel mill I think and what I think we have discusses is that we need maybe a sheet of medal and different tools to hit on it (I.E. flat shovels, round shovels, ball peen hammers, rubber wallets, Etc...) Also we are doing this human fence. Fence people need to me tough, unmoved, unbreakable. You are representing a solid items that is nearly impassable. So when you are crossing arms and holding ground you need to be as Solid as a rock

  8. Look at Reagan's comments about Nate and figure out how others are impacted by the strike. Life is stressful enough when everything is going well - add children, no job, debts, tension at home ---
    Thanks, Reagan
