Billy picks up bag and blows dust. Begins speaking.  ·         Hard work’s good for the soul – hit.  Everyone freezes, but the guys going out to enter back in. ·         Everyone freezes for a second, but the guys going out to enter back in. Nate & Billy cross DSL. Everyone sets welfare scene quietly. DO NOT LOOK FOR SPIKE TAPE.  Lights off welfare. Nate: You want to get on relief, don’t you? Move into welfare scene. Nate, go into relief office from DSL. Look for Marie and Alice,  then talk. PEOPLE NOISES COMING IN. Reg & Frank should be in when Nate says that Billy is trying to get relief. ACT LIKE YOU ARE ACTUALLY IN THE OFFICE. FILL OUT FORMS. ASK A NEIGHBOR WHAT TO WRITE. Cody, Michelle, Carson come in after others ·         There’s no relief for single men. Hit ·         Gate people exit welfare scene and stand with backs to audience until after Frankie and Reggie’s scene. Gates turn around together after “I got you” ·         Wilcox gate – Hit on gate That’s all for today.  Gate people & workers disperse.PEOPLE NOISES ·         Scene 5 -CUT song. Use percussion until lines start. Men come in with lines.  You are happy to be there. Michelle, Nathan, Paige, Cheyanne, Allison work in back. At one point, Paige was the only one hitting the metal. ·         Scene 6 Frank – Got to look after yourself – men sing! My daddy was a steel man & I’m a Steel Man’s Son We’ll be with you fellow workers Until the battle's won  work in steel mill Michelle , Nathan, Paige, Cheyanne Fix union hall Allison, Hannah, Avery ·         Scene 8  First bar scene Men laugh as they come in and greet women.After I get the first round, Louis says, I tell that son of a bitch foreman! “there’s oil all over that walkway,” an you know what he say?  He say, “you don’ like workin here, then get outta the plant.  A thousand more Dagos standin’ outside the gate.” (in this scene, women are playing cards more center stage right than center stage). Rose and Nate come in later.  As they come in, Nate says he is buying drinks.  Rose looks upset Everyone goes directly into the Mr. Hilton scene. ·         Scene 9 Mr. Hilton  scene – People noises back into bar scene. Frank, come in after others come in, and tip your hat to your friends. ·         Scene 10 Second bar scene Hit on HELL.  No song ·         Scene 11 Hit on shoulder – Hilton’s line -I expect everyone to deal with me straight from the shoulder. ·         End of scene 13 - Sing this after I move voting commences now & Keep singing until scene 14.  Guys begin and Avery continues singing while people are voting. STRIKE has NOT STARTED. This scene is in Union Hall.  Alice and Avery are handing out pamphlets.  Alice sees Reg & comes back in. Hit the bricks – hit on bricks Paige & Avery are making signs .Savannah & Hannah & nathan are making sandwiches ·         Scene 18 - The Union is behind us, we shall not be moved The union is behind us at beginning   and is sung After keep the Hamilton plant open. Nate, Billy, Reg & Hannah are striking. Hilton keeps speaking into the mic. Ty & Cody hit 3 times ·         Scene 19 no singing. Men are playing cards.  Women are striking. When Marie comes in, men go to listen to their conversation. ·         Scene 20 - Knock it off. January 27 Rehearsal

Everyone	The song after Nate says, “knock it off” is Solidarity Forever. Levels Signs are covering faces Louder – voices are drifting.  Remember that Cooper has a dead space center stage. Work on accents! When it is slow motion, make sure it is slow motion. Strikers, be moving at different paces with different walks. In the radio scene with Frank, Reg, look at your watch to tell Paige to turn the radio on. Learn beats to song with train. Slow motion between beats, then an exaggerated motion to start the big beats. Scatter when song stops. Stand straight forming each gate. Everyone needs to be as loud as Hayden and Jared when singing. Freeze when you are supposed to. Can anyone help cut the signs down?  I don’t want my husband to because I yelled about getting it done in a hurry. Good job, Cheyanne

January 21 Rehearsal

Rehearsal January 21, 2013

All in all – a magnificent couple of days of rehearsals.  You have been doing this for two weeks! We are under an hour. Most people know their lines. Tech people are amazing.  Notice Cole’s sunsets and sunrises.

EVERYONE	·         SING!!!  We will only sing about two –four lines of each song. We still have a 10 min. minimum. ·         Remember cues and spots.  Also remember to think ahead to the next scene and what needs to be on stage. ·         LEVELS! ·         Avoid straight lines ·         Someone go to my box after 10AM and see if any of the movies I ordered are in. ·         Someone go to the middle school library and pick up used cards. ·         React to the weather. Cold at the beginning and cold at the end.I will have the different seasons by Thursday. ·         Gate people.  Remember your cues and come in on time.  Look stern and unmoving. ·         Know your cue in the races line.  Italians, Poles, etc. ·         Laugh at Savannah. ·         All fight scenes – we need people noises. ·         Ask Madi about end ringing ·         WORK ON LINES ·         Work on train scene and Nate & Billy climbing wall. ·         Be more excited about the UNION. ·         LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  EVERYONE ·         When Hilton says they can have the union, everyone act differently and in different ways. ·         When you enter the stage (except for Billy), you see friends, you react.  Laugh at Savannah’s line about more babies.
Tucker	Perfection –diction You are showing off your friend, so make your first line in the welfare scene a welcome. Be louder – good accent. Push Alice once. Work on being mad, especially when Rose spits.
Graham	The wop line needs to be angrier and let Savannah calm you down. Vinny – say Vinny like you can’t believe it. A question?  Picture Ron Burgundy.
Avery	Freeze
Hannah	Louder, deeper, and slow down
Paige	Walk in character.  We will have to change your look before the scene after the welfare scene.
Women	Stand and sit up straight or everyone will be wearing corsets.
Men	In steel mill, be as loud as Hayden.
Alice & Reg	More emotion and feeling toward each other. Speaking of foreclosure – must have more emotion.
ADD Rose	Your son is lying at home with three broken ribs!  He called somebody’s father a scab, and six kids jumped him.  The police brought him home.
Nate	He knows how to take care of himself.
Rose	That’s all you think about, isn’t it?  Drinkin’ and fightin’ and bein’ with your buddies.  Bobby is thirteen years old.  He needs a father & he gets you tellin him to fight his way through everything!
Jared	Getting up from fight scene – show more pain.
Nathan	Train light further upstage.
Hayden	Jump the fence first because you have a line later about seeing the train. Then climb back over the LADDER. No parenthesis Think about picking up the bag, and it reminds you of the Glory Days.  Dust it off and people come in. Be ashamed that your papa left. Work on of steel which boils…. diction
Allison	Went home  line - diction
